Making the Simple Coat Hook
3. The next step is to punch a hole for the bolt.  I'll do this by returning to the near side of the anvil. Holding the tongs between my legs, so as to free up both hands.  I'll take a round headed punch and drive it into the center of the spade.  This will have the effect of moving all but a thin skin of iron out of the way.  We'll turn the hook over and we'll be able to see a silhouette of the punch head.  Line the punch up on it and drive the thin skin back.  Quickly putting it over a Bolster plate, I'll drive the punch into the hole of the bolster.  That will have the effect of shearing the thin skin from the hook.  One hole! and I'm finish with this end.  Time to start on the other end.
